Orchards and Locations
Orchad
Throughout these years we have located our orchards in the best productive zones of our country, in a way that our trees can express their full productive potential and their fruit reach the best quality possible. The selection of these productive zones is the result of a careful analysis of soil, climate, plant healthiness and irrigation water quality.
Our permanent concern to assure the quality of our products and for the environment has taken us to incorporate good agricultural practices in all of our orchards and since the year 2003 we have the Eurep Gap certification in each of our orchards.
Orchard Management
-
The care of our trees is in the hands of our technical team comprised of Agricultural Engineers that supervise each one of the task performed throughout the year. They begin in the winter with pruning, which produces a vegetable material renovation that will give origin to the fruit of the next spring and assures correct sunlight on trees.
-
Later in Spring, together with the beginning of the irrigations and fertilizations, the blooming time take place where there must be placed bees hives in the interior of the orchards in order to assure an adecuate pollination of the flowers that will later produce the fruit.
-
When the total amount of fruit is defined an adjustment is done to assure the best relation between the number of fruit and the number of leaves, since the leaves are responsible of feeding the fruit during this growth period. Therefore an optimun relation between fruit and leaves assure us a good-sized fruit and a concentration of sugars adequate to obtain fruit with perfect sweetness.
-
The fertilization of each orchard determines according to the characteristics of the soil, the age of the tree and its nutritional state and the amount of fruit it will produce. In the same way the amount of irrigation water applied depends on the type of soil, the type of tree and the evaporation rate that we have. We count with state of the art soil moisture tester equipments to ensure the correct irrigation during all the time.
-
The taste and sweetness of our fruit, is owed to the fact that we carefully begin the harvest at the moment that we are sure that the fruit has reached its taste potential.
-
This is why our production department constantly monitors the sugar content and the firmness of the fruit so they can decide the optimun moment for harvest. The harvest, depending on the geographic location, can begins in mid-february.
-
The picking is done with machines specially designed to insure the maximum care of the fruit and the trees. These machines shake the trees, causing the ripe fruit to fall into a conveyor belt that transports the fruit into plastic bins which carry the fruit to the dehydrator.
